(HALIFAX, NS – August 13, 2019)  Terri Green, Chair of the Board of Directors, announced today Scott Burke has been appointed Kids Up Front Atlantic’s first Executive Director.

“We are delighted to welcome Scott to lead Kids Up Front Atlantic as we embark on an exciting growth period,” said Green, “Scott’s many talents and extensive experience with not-for-profit charities, along with his keen interest in the mission of Kids Up Front, make him the ideal person to take on this role.”

Kids Up Front Atlantic is a charitable organization that provides access to arts, culture, sport and recreation for children who don’t otherwise have the opportunity to experience them. With Kids Up Front children get to feel included, often for the first time. Our goal is to inspire and educate.

For families, Kids Up Front helps parents and caregivers give their children an unforgettable experience, and provides much needed opportunities for family fun. For the community, Kids Up Front creates life-long fans by filling empty seats with eager fans-in-the making.

Prior to establishing his consulting firm in 2014, Burke enjoyed a lengthy career as a producer, director and playwright in the theatre, at the helm of Ship’s Company Theatre, Theatre New Brunswick, and Eastern Front Theatre. As a consultant, Scott has been instrumental in planning and implementation of the repurposing of the Lunenburg Academy, a National Historic Site, and will continue to work on that project.

Scott served as the Program Director for the artsVest Nova Scotia Program which provided sponsorship training and incentive matching funds over a five year period. Burke led Partnership Management at the Atlantic International Film Festival for the last two years and continues to create strategic, business, and fundraising plans for performing arts organizations.

“The opportunity to spearhead the efforts of Kids Up Front Atlantic as we grow the organization’s capacity to match those of chapters in other parts of the country, is one I embrace wholeheartedly. “ said Burke, “Providing the means to distribute unused event tickets to deserving youth and their families has life-changing possibilities. It’s a win-win-win situation for the venues and sponsors who donate tickets, the community service agencies that receive tickets, and the young people who get to attend an incredible sports or entertainment event.”

Scotiabank Centre is Kids Up Front’s Premiere Venue Partner. Kids Up Front receives generous financial support from TD Atlantic Region, TD Noteworthy Program and CIBC Theatre For All. Since 2017 Kids Up Front Atlantic has distributed over 2,000 tickets at a value of over $56,000.

Kids Up Front engages with over a dozen Community Agency Partners including the United Way of Halifax, Laing House, Veith House, Phoenix Youth Program, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Halifax, to name a few.
